Birkebeiner run half marathon
Birkebeinerløpet is one of the most famous running races in Norway. The course is 21 km and takes you through various forest terrain.
Start at Birkebeineren Skistadion and finish at Haakons Hall in Lillehammer.
All competitors must have passed 16 years of age as per 31.12.2019.

Keep Birken clean
Littering along the route is not allowed, and will be punished with 15 minutes added to your time. Please bring your litter it to the nearest food station, or use the drop zones along the course
Birkebeinerløpet has elite classes for men and women.
If you want to change class from your age class to elit class, pleas contact us at email@example.com.

Results and the Birkebeiner medal
Participants in the elite classes will get results in both elite classes, and their age classes.
Results in the elite classes do not affect the time limit for receiving the Birken medal. Participants in these classes will gain the medal if their results are within the time limit set by de top 5 participants in each age class.

Birkebeinerløpet has seeded wave start and free seeding.
You choose wave when entering the race. You can change wave at your My Page if avalable spots until June 7th.
Note: It is a limited amount of spots in each wave.
Expetion: W65+, M70+ and FH start at 10.00
All waves start at real time , except men and women elite that start at start shot.

Final waves and starting times will be given 1-2 weeks prior the race.

Birkebeiner Medal (merket)
Birkebeiner Medal time limit is calculated separately for each class in the race. 25% of the average time for the five best contestants in the classes sets the max time. Participants in the elite classes does not influence the max time.
The Birkebeiner medal, and the honorary diploma, is given to participants qualifying 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 times.
Achieving the max time qualifies to:
1. medal - SMK (Silver medal)
5. medal - GMK (Gold medal)
10. medal - SST (Silver statue)
15. medal - Krus (Pewter pitcher)
20. medal - GST (Gold statue)
The results of participants starting in the elite classes is registered both in the elite class, and their age class. No max time is calculated in the elite classes, but participants in these classes gains the Birkebeiner medal if they are within the max time set for their age class.
All participants finishing the race recieves a participation pin and a time diploma. The participation pin is distributed by the finish line, and the diploma inside Håkons Hall. The diploma can also be printed from your My Page from the first Monday after the race.
25% of participants starting in each class recieves a prize.
The top three contestants in each class recieves their prizes from the stage outside of Håkons Hall at 13.30
Distribution of all other prizes is in the prize area inside Håkons Hall.
We do not send prizes, pins or diplomas in the mail, so please remember to stop by Håkons Hall to recieve yours, before leaving the area.
The winners of each class recieves a pair of Asics sneakers, these are distributed inside of Håkons Hall after the race.
Participated 10 and 20 times
All participants finishing the Birkebeinerløpet 10 and 20 times, recieves a gourmet plate from Hadeland Glassverk. The plate is ingraved.
The plate is distributed with the other prizes inside Håkons Hall during the event.

We expect that everyone has passed the finish line at 18.00.

Bus and parking
Free shuttle buses to start at Birkebeineren Ski stadium
Departure from Kleivbakken behind Håkons Hall between 07.30 to 18.00. the bus ride will take about 10 minutes.
Bus from Oslo to Lillehammer round trip Saturday June 9.
You need to order in advance at My Page June 14. at 20.00 at the latest
- From Oslo Bussterminal to Lillehammer, start 05.30, kr 380,-
- From Olavsgaard to Lillehammer, start 05.50, kr 380,-
- From Gardermoen to Lillehammer, start 06.20, kr 380,-
Oo the right by the departure hall. The bus will be marked Birkebeinerløpet.
- From Lillehammer to Oslo 16.30 kr. 380,-
Departure from the roundabout between Kristin and Håkons Hall. Bus will stop at Gardermoen and Olavsgaard before Oslo.

Parking NOK 75,-.
All participants, including foreigners, must have a valid license to enter Norwegian running events.
All participants age 13-79 must have a valid licence to start in running events in Norway. If you have a valid licence through your team, bring your licence card when you retrieve your BIB.
The licence is not included in the participation fee. It can be purchased when entering, through your My Page, or at the race office when retrieving your BIB.
Injuries during the race
If you are injured during one of the Birkebeiner events, please contact the insurance company.
All competitors needs a license.
Bacpak is compulsary for UltraBirken run.
For safety reason, it is not allowed to use MP3 player/earplugs etc.
Time keeping / Bib
Your bib is also your time keeper. A chip at the back side of the bib logs your start time, split time and time at the finish.
Your start number is personal, and must not be used by any one else.
Real time: Birkebeinerløpet and HalvBirken run
A start mat placed at start activates your time keeping when you pass it. Exceptions: The elite classes in Birkebeinerløpet and wave 1 in HalvBirken run start at start shot.
Start shot UltraBirken run, Birken fjellmaraton and UngdomsBirken run
Time keeping starts as the start shot is fired.
Split times/Birkebeiner medal times during the race
During Birkebeinerløpet time keeping boards is placed by Sjøsætervegen and Kroken. It tells you what time you need to be able to make the Birkebeiner medal. OBS! These times are all un-official.
Against race conditions: 30 minutes after passing the finish line.
Against the list of results: 30 minutes after the list and results have been published.
The complaint must be submitted in writing with a fee of NOK 100 at the Race Office in Håkons Hall.

Luggage delivery is by the start at Birkebeineren Skistadion. Distribution of luggage is by the finish line, next to Kristins Hall.
UltraBirken run and Birken fjellmaraton
Luggage drop of is close to start at Sjusjøen. Your luggage will be brought to the finish line at Lillehammer.
Drop zones for items needed during the race:
UltraBirken run: Pellestova and Nordsetervegen/Sjusjøvegen.
Birken fjellmaratong: Nordsetervegen/Sjusjøvegen.
Hand in these items in the start area.
Remember to use the labels inckuded in your race package, and then bring your luggage to the drop zone.
Birken holds no liability for lost/ruined luggage during transport or storage.
