Track
The course will be fully marked and ready for test running around May 5.
From the Start at Birkebeiner Ski Stadium to "Kanalen"
The race begins at Birkebeiner Ski Stadium, located 525 meters above sea level — the same starting point as the 21 km Birkebeinerløpet and the Half Birken. After the start, runners cross Sjøseterveien and complete a loop of approximately 2 km. This section follows the cross-country ski trails from the 1994 Winter Olympics and World Cup events. The terrain here varies — from trails with mixed surfaces to wide, grass-covered ski tracks. This part of the course includes a few steep climbs and descents, so be cautious, especially in wet conditions. After 2 km, the course crosses Sjøseterveien again and continues along a tractor trail past Abbortjern. Expect some technically challenging segments with rocks and roots.
Once you reach the "VIP road," there will be a hydration station offering water and Maxim sports drink. At around the 4 km mark, the trail continues along the left side of the VIP road. After about 800 meters, the route turns left into a small wooded area with uneven terrain, before continuing on a gravel road leading up to the canal crossing.
From the Canal to the Finish Line at Håkons Hall
After crossing the canal, the course heads straight ahead and crosses the Mesna river via footbridges (note: these may be slippery when wet). The trail then joins the “Maihaug trail,” which leads you into the cross trail just behind Maihaugen open-air museum. This section of about 1.5 km includes some steep uphill segments and a few short, soft/muddy areas.
The cross trail is flat and easy to run, leading you to the top of Kleivbakken hill. On this stretch, the course crosses two local roads in the Nybu area — please be alert, as there may be traffic. From the top of Kleivbakken, the course slopes diagonally downhill toward the finish line at Håkons Hall.
