E-bike – Open Class
In the E-bike class, the results list is unranked and shows an alphabetical overview of all finishers with their times. You are not competing for placement or the Birkebeiner medal requirements in this class.
The E-bike class starts in the last non-seeded wave.
Note: There is no charging service or possibility to change batteries along the course. The e-bike must comply with the Norwegian Road Traffic Act’s limitations: maximum speed of 25 km/h and maximum nominal motor power of 250 W.
Clarification on motor and battery
The 250 W limit refers to the motor’s nominal power output – the amount of power the motor can deliver continuously. This is a standard requirement for e-bikes in Norway and the EU, and all legal e-bikes are type-approved for this.
Battery capacity (e.g., 500 Wh):
-
Only affects the range
-
Has no impact on the motor’s power or legal status
As long as the bike is original and not tuned, and the motor cuts out at 25 km/h, it meets the Norwegian Road Traffic Act’s requirements and can be used in the E-bike class.
