SkøyteBirken 53 km

53 km free technique – from Rena to Lillehammer with a mandatory 3.5 kg backpack
Emil S Nyeng - SkøyteBirken 2025-2

A free-technique experience across three mountains

SkøyteBirken is a 53 km free-technique race from Rena to Lillehammer, following the same iconic course as the Birkebeinerrennet. The race is suitable for both experienced skaters and newcomers looking for flow, speed and a memorable mountain experience.

At the start line in Tingstadjordet (Rena), a spectacular journey awaits: crossing three mountain areas and skiing through varied winter terrain before reaching the finish at the Birkebeineren Ski Stadium in Lillehammer. With a 3.5-kg backpack, you’ll get a true Birkebeiner experience — but in free technique.

SkateBirken will be held for the 6th time in 2026. The race takes place on Friday 13 March and offers both recreational and elite classes for men and women. Anyone turning 16 by 31 December 2026 can participate. SkøyteBirken is part of the Birkebeinertrippelen.

New in 2026: Birkebeinermerket/max time and 5-year age categories! More info here!
